Girl Scouting is girl-led, so each troop customizes activities and experiences to meet their interests.
Girl Scouts research their passions, learn new skills, explore the outdoors, travel, perform community service, and have opportunities to develop leadership skills.
Shirley Girl Scouts participate in the yearly Shirley Scout Food Drive, which collected more than 10,000 pounds of food in November 2025 for the Loaves of Fishes Food Pantry.
For the past several years, theShirley Girl Scouts have createdvalentines for Project Valentine. Troop 69089 of Groton hosts this event, and this year, 117 valentines were collected and then distributed by Project Valentine to seniors all over the state.
Since 2023, Shirley’s Troop 83803 has hosted the annual World Thinking Day event at the beginning of March. It is a day of international friendship where troops learn about the lives of girls around the globe.
Other events in 2026 have included badge workshops where girls have learned about self-care, travel, camping, selling Girl Scout cookies, volunteer service projects, a birthday party for Juliette Gordon Low, who founded Girl Scouts, and friendship bracelet-making events.
